The purpose of this research is to describe the influence of use demonstration method in improving literacy inner element of poetry in learning Indonesian language and literature in the fifth grade Elementary School number 71 west Pontianak. This research uses descriptive research is a classroom action research. The technique of collecting data use direct observation technique by observation sheet. The result of this research are the ability of teacher plan learning in cycle I obtained score of 2,75 in the medium category, in cycle II obtained score of 3,10 in good category and in cycle III obtained score 3,73 with excellent category. The ability of teacher to implement learning in cycle I obtained score 2,74 in the medium category, in cycle II obtained score 3,40 in good category and in cycle III obtained score 3,90 with excellent category. The result of students learning in cycle I are 37,24%, in cycle II are 62,10% and in cycle III are 81,72%. The result of students learning increase from cycle I to cycle II in 24,86%, cycle II to cycle III in 19,62%. So, it canbe concluded that demonstration method used has been successful in improving the ability of reading a poetry on the inner element at fifth grade students of Elementary School number 71 west Pontianak.
